Propositions - Built-in Disaster Recovery

The buzzword is "business continuity". We call it survival. Fire, flood, hurricane, a man down the street putting his spade through the power cable: some events are beyond anyone's control. When disaster strikes, you need to know your data's safe and ready to come back online as if nothing had happened.

With Ultraspeed, that's part of the deal. Your data is on the network, not on the server. So every night, when we take a full snapshot of it. There's no backup process for your server to run, and no deterioration in performance. At any given time, more than a month of snapshots are waiting to be restored, should they be needed. Once a week (or more often if you choose), all your data is replicated to a separate secure location. It's unlikely to be affected by any catastrophe at our London headquarters, because it's in Amsterdam.

Not all threats are accidents. Together with our upstream providers, we constantly guard against intrusion and can defend our customers from attacks such as distributed denial of service (DDoS). Intelligent firewalls protect all our servers, and each client is isolated in a separate security zone.

Our infrastructure is designed this way because managed hosting is all we do. Instead of bolting new features onto an old network, we've thought the whole thing through from scratch, with security and continuity among our first priorities.
