Eco-Friendly Managed Servers

Whether you're a certified tree-hugger or still working on your green credentials, it's good to know at least one aspect of your operations is environmentally sound. At Ultraspeed, we've found what's good for the planet is also good for business. We use servers with the latest low-voltage CPUs that run on DC power, vastly reducing electricity consumption. When we upgrade them, where possible we retain the existing chassis to reduce waste.

We think our way is better than wasting power on sheds full of bog-standard boxes, then sending you a card that says we planted a tree.

Our data centres are designed on a hot/cold aisle model with efficient cooling. In Amsterdam, we already run entirely on renewable energy, and we're working towards this in London, too. Thanks to our diskless, virtualised data architecture, we get the maximum performance from the minimum kit, scaling up and down as required.

We don't stop there. Our directors believe in sustainable living, and they practise what they preach. We recycle as much as possible; we don't leave lights on; and we hot-desk to avoid duplicating resources. Many of us walk or cycle to work, and when we travel within Europe we don't fly, we take the train. Our MD drives an electric car, having given up petrol in 2006. Oh, and we're printing our stationery and brochures on recycled paper using vegetable-based inks. Because — why not?
